About Me

Andrew Schwehm, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a former resident of New York City and is currently providing virtual care to New York and Georgia-based individuals. Andrew specializes in providing evidence-based treatments to adults suffering from a range of problems, including anxiety, depression, trauma exposure, relationship struggles, work stressors, sports performance, and other related difficulties. 

 

Dr. Schwehm is trained in providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Mindfulness Skills. He has over 10 years of experience in hospitals and outpatient settings. He currently works at Lyra Health serving as a Clinical Quality Supervisor and previously held positions as the Assistant Mental Health Director at Bellevue Hospital's survivors of 9/11 clinic and a Clinical Instructor at NYU School of Medicine.​

Individual Psychotherapy

Dr. Schwehm specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and he works closely with clients to build a strong, therapeutic relationship to help in overcoming barriers. His treatment approach sometimes draws from mindfulness-based skills, based on each individual client's needs and goals. He is committed to providing a warm, non-judgmental environment for clients to aid them in moving through challenges toward personal growth. Treatment is collaborative and goal-oriented, focusing on helping clients build strategies to manage difficulties as they come, allowing more freedom to live a values-based life. 

Dr. Schwehm has experience working with adults with a range of difficulties, including:

Getting Started

Once you contact Dr. Schwehm by either phone or email, he will set up a brief phone call to discuss your concerns. If you believe Dr. Schwehm is a good match for your treatment needs, he will set up an initial appointment. Prior to your first appointment, you will receive an email with an intake packet to review and complete.

First Appointment

The purpose of the initial meeting is to better understand your concerns and collaborate about establishing treatment goals. We will also clarify how individualized treatment will be tailored to your needs to allow you to accomplish your goals. Dr. Schwehm will outline various treatment options and support for each treatment. From there, you can decide if you would like to pursue treatment and set up a weekly appointment. Appropriate referrals may be provided, if necessary. 

Insurance and Rates

Payment is due at the time of each appointment. Dr. Schwehm does not accept insurance. Some insurance plans include out-of-network benefits that may allow you to submit claims for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider to clarify your specific behavioral health coverage. Dr. Schwehm will be happy to assist you as best as possible in navigating your insurance's reimbursement plan and to provide you with a billing statement that can be submitted to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
